Atul Swarup, CPA, CA

Atul Swarup, CPA, CA, is an experienced finance and business leader with a career that has spanned finance, operations, information technology, human resources and general management. Over the years, he has worked across manufacturing, technology and service-based organizations, giving him a broad understanding of how financial decisions connect with the wider operation of a business.

His experience extends well beyond traditional accounting and financial reporting. Atul has been responsible for budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, financial analysis, banking relationships, systems, organizational planning and operational decision-making. He has also worked closely with leadership teams on areas such as improving processes, strengthening internal controls, managing risk, supporting growth and improving the quality of information available to decision-makers.

Having held senior roles within privately held and owner-managed businesses, Atul understands many of the challenges that come with running and growing a company. These can include managing working capital, understanding profitability, dealing with inventory, improving reporting, negotiating with financial institutions, evaluating capital requirements and ensuring that the finance function keeps pace as the organization becomes more complex.

Atul is known for his practical and analytical approach to problem-solving. He combines strong financial discipline with an understanding of the operational realities behind the numbers. Rather than looking at finance in isolation, he works to understand how the business operates, where resources are being used, what risks may be developing and where there may be opportunities to improve performance.

This perspective has allowed him to help organizations strengthen financial management, improve operational effectiveness and make more informed decisions. Whether working through a cash flow issue, reviewing banking arrangements, assessing inventory, improving financial reporting or supporting a broader strategic initiative, Atul brings an experienced and pragmatic perspective to the discussion.

As a CFO with Part Time CFO Services, Atul works with business owners and leadership teams that need senior financial expertise without necessarily requiring a full-time CFO. He works alongside existing accounting and finance teams, helping strengthen internal capabilities while providing additional support in areas that require more senior-level analysis, planning and decision-making.

One of the aspects Atul values most about the fractional CFO model is the opportunity to work with a wide range of businesses and organizations. Each engagement brings a different set of challenges, industries and leadership teams, allowing him to apply decades of experience while continuing to learn how different organizations operate.

Outside of his professional work, Atul has been actively involved in the Peterborough community for more than 30 years. He has contributed his time and leadership to a variety of community, charitable and not-for-profit organizations, including board and leadership roles across healthcare, community services, education, arts and philanthropy. He sees that involvement as both an opportunity to contribute to his community and a way to continue learning from the people and organizations around him.

Atul currently supports clients across Peterborough, Durham Region and Northumberland, helping owners and leadership teams gain greater clarity around their financial position, strengthen their finance function and make better-informed decisions about the future of their organizations.
